Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya, March 21 (HBTV): Several influential figures from the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Meghalaya have announced their resignation on Wednesday in Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi, just weeks before the Lok Sabha elections.

This decision is expected to impact the electoral prospects of Robertjune Kharjahrin, the Regional Democratic Alliance candidate contending for the Shillong parliamentary seat.

Among the resigning members are notable personalities such as former Mawhati member of legislative assembly and working president of the party in the state and district, Donbok Khymdeit; chief adviser of Ri Bhoi UDP, Raphael Massar; and former KHADC CEM Rangkynsai Makdoh, among other leaders.

During a press briefing, Donbok Khymdeit, a longstanding UDP figure, highlighted the transparent nature of their decision, emphasizing its alignment with the goal of advancing district-wide development. He clarified that their resignation wasn't driven by personal grievances against the party at either state or district levels, but rather stemmed from a conscientious commitment to serving the community's interests.

Khymdeit underscored their respect for the decisions made by those remaining in the UDP, and expressed goodwill for their future endeavors.

Meanwhile, insider reports suggest that the departing leaders may lean towards aligning with the National People’s Party in the foreseeable future. However, they refrained from confirming this speculation, indicating a collective determination about their next steps in the days ahead.
